Reporting to the Health and Safety Supervisor, the Safety Officer assists in managing Occupational Health and Safety, ensuring compliance with safety standards, and promoting a safe work environment.

Key responsibilities

Safety and health conditions and practices

  • Monitor and enforce HS (Health and Safety) standards.
  • Ensure proper usage of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment).
  • Provide safety training to the workforce.
  • Report and address unsafe acts and conditions.
  • Audit Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) for work areas.
  • Take part in H&S system audits and follow up on corrective actions.
  • Follow up on corrective actions and update action sheets accordingly.
  • Take part in the investigation of all incidents and near misses.
  • Help the workforce with SHE (Safety, Health, and Environment) related problems.
  • Coordinate the duties of H&S technicians.

Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment

  • Identify and evaluate risks.
  • Facilitate evaluation of the Risks identified for the purpose of determining critical Risks.
  • Facilitate the development of Written Safe Work Procedures
  • Implement and communicate hazard control measures.
  • Follow up on the implementation of hazard control measures and update action sheets.

Adhere to safety requirements

  • Comply with safety and work standards.
  • Maintain good housekeeping practices.
  • Report hazardous conditions.
  • Ensure compliance with legal requirements.

Position requirements

  • A formal health and safety certificate or diploma (BAC+2 Degree in HSE, Mining, or equivalent qualification)
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in HS roles in the mining industry.
  • Good knowledge of Ivorian HSE laws, legislation, and standards.
  • French / English language skills are essential.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office.
  • Experience working in a multicultural environment.
  • Effective communication skills at all organizational levels.
  • Strong conceptual skills and the ability to develop practical solutions.
  • Ability to adapt to a changing work environment.
  •  Reputation for integrity and ethics.
