The role

Reporting to the Health and Safety Superintendent, he/she assists the Health and Safety Superintendent in managing occupational health and safety at the Lafigue site.

Key responsibilities

  • Maintain safety and health conditions and practices Monitor SHE standards
  • Ensure safe use of PPE.
  • Provide safety training to the workforce
  • Audit JHA's for work areas ensuring all employees have signed off Ensure records are updated
  • Provide information to the H&S Superintendent for weekly and monthly reports Ensure safety notice signs are updated by H&S Officers Report unsafe acts and conditions.
  • Action deviations identified and reported for corrective action.
  • Follow up on corrective actions and update action sheet accordingly.
  • Launch safety contests.
  • Rotate banners.
  • Store conversations.
  • Distribute posters.
  • Perform monitoring tasks
  • Investigate all accidents, incidents and near misses.
  • Review H&S procedures.
  • Assist the workforce and management with H&S related issues.
  • Coordinate the duties of the H&S officers
  • Stand in the H&S Superintendent's seat during break time.
  • Audit PPE stores to verify quantities
  • All other duties as directed by the QHSE Manager and Superintendent Hazard identification and risk assessment.

Position requirements

  • A formal health and safety certificate or diploma (BAC+3 minimum)
  • Train the trainer certificate is a plus
  • Computer literate
  • Experience in mining and/or construction will be an advantage
  • 5 years’ experience in similar or related roles
  • Ability to communicate in English
  • Ability to work in an office environment
  • Firm hand, great attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Communication skills
  • Decision-making skills.
