Reporting to the Senior Planner, the Maintenance Planner will be responsible for providing the preventative maintenance system, inclusive of the scheduling process, work scoping and maintaining the relevant maintenance records as well as providing updates to the preventive maintenance system when required. Maintenance Planner will implement improvement strategies and tactics that enable cost effective, timely and safe maintenance to occur.

The role

Reporting to the Senior Planner, the Maintenance Planner will be responsible for providing the preventative maintenance system, inclusive of the scheduling process, work scoping and maintaining the relevant maintenance records as well as providing updates to the preventive maintenance system when required. Maintenance Planner will implement improvement strategies and tactics that enable cost effective, timely and safe maintenance to occur.

Key responsibilities

General

  • Setup and implementation of the Plant Maintenance PM program pertaining to the CMMS.
  • Setup and implement PM frequencies based on best practice and OEM recommendations.
  • Liaise with the maintenance team and implement Work Scoping when required pertaining to the relevant critical tasks.
  • Implement Backlog reports and manage the weekly PM Tasks in conjunction with the Maintenance Supervisors.
  • Liaise closely with Maintenance supervisors on order to schedule tasks according to resource availability and allocation.
  • Liaise with W/hse personnel and ensure critical parts availability as well as providing expediting assistance if required.
  • Develop, monitor and maintain maintenance Key Performance Data (KPI) and provide reports for discussion on same.
  • Build reports and deliver presentations to the maintenance team.
  • Implement and lead Planning meetings with all relevant Plant operational and maintenance personnel.
  • Undertake reliability performance evaluations, predictions and standardised reporting.
  • Actively participate in various safety activities.
  • Actively participate in continuous improvement initiatives
  • Implement and Maintain an Equipment Statutory Inspection Register.
  • Participate in Mill and associated critical equipment shutdown meetings and develop a shutdown schedule (Gantt Chart) in conjunction with the relevant maintenance and operational personnel.
  • Work with the Maintenance Superintendent and Senior Planner to establish an operating budget.
  • Promote and adhere to appropriate internal methodologies, policies, procedures and standards.
  • Consistently maintain a high quality of work within the maintenance team.
  • Provide input regarding improvement opportunities and areas of risk.
  • Ensure compliance with all statutory requirements (including Company Policy, Standards, and Procedures) through training and development of staff and promoting by example.

  • Minimum Diploma, Certificate in Engineering, mechanical or Electrical 
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in an engineering discipline.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in planning or similar role.
  • Must be experienced in the use of a CMMS based maintenance system.
  • EAM experience is highly beneficial.
  • Condition monitoring experience is highly beneficial.
  • Experience in Asset Management Risk Reduction / Elimination programs such as RCA and FMEA systems is highly beneficial.
  • French language skills desired and essential.
  • Experience within the mining sector in Africa preferred.
  • Working experience with Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook and power point.
