Reporting to the Social Performance (SP) Superintendent and working in collaboration with the site-based SP Manager, the SP Supervisor will support the implementation of community development projects, the resettlement action plan (RAP) and Livelihood Restoration Programs, and the training-up of team members. He/She is also expected to have expertise in supporting PAPs, agricultural organizations/groups, women and young people in the implementation and monitoring of income generating activities.

The role

He/She is also expected to have expertise in supporting PAPs, agricultural organizations/groups, women and young people in the implementation and monitoring of income generating activities.

Level of studies

Degree in international development, social sciences or relevant discipline preferred.

  • Demonstrated ability to scale up and effectively apply strategies to different local environments and cultures. 
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision, manage multiple tasks and multiple demands. 
  • Strong written, verbal and presentation skills in English and French required. 

Key responsibilities

 Social performance management system:

  • Ensure the implementation of EDV's social performance policies and standards by the social performance team. 
  • Coach and build the capacity of team members to implement the social performance management system. 
  • Monitor the progress of the implementation of the social performance management system especially on compensation, Artisanal and Small-Scale Mining (ASM), grievance and chance finds and provide corrective actions if necessary. 

 Administration and reporting:

  • Prepare correspondence with various local authority and administrative representatives as required. 
  • Generate reports as required (weekly, monthly, quarterly and annually) 
  • Research and prepare briefing notes, talking points and other documents as required for internal reporting or company engagement with external parties. 
  • Contribute to the broadcast of quarterly SP newsletters. 

 Grievance management plan:

  • Aware and train internal and external stakeholders on the grievance procedure  
  • Update, if necessary, under the superintendent the grievance procedure and policy  
  • Update and archive the grievance database recording and all documents used in grievance management plan.  
  • Monitor the implementation of correctives actions that follow the final decision of grievance management.  
  • Ensure all grievances are closed in reasonable time. 

 Compensation, land acquisition and resettlement:

  • Ensure under the superintendent and Manager SP that policies and procedures are followed when implementing compensation, land acquisition and resettlement.  
  • Work with SP team members and external consultants on resettlement action & livelihood restoration plans, ensuring alignment with community development; Local Mining Development Plan. 

  ASM:

  • Support to assess the ASM context, risks, and opportunities.
  • Contribute to review management options with relevant departments and develop an ASM Action Plan.

Position requirements

  • At least 5 years' relevant experience, including 2 years at role level. 
  • Experience in the mining or extractive sector preferred. 
  • Sound knowledge, expertise and understanding of the application and implementation of the IFC Performance Standards required. 
  • Knowledge and experience of working with Microsoft software (Word, Outlook, Excel, Project).
  • Ability to drive a light vehicle.
