We are committed to protecting and conserving nature and biodiversity.
In early 2024, we reinforced this commitment by becoming early adopters of TNFD.
Our approach
We have a multi-pronged approach to protect ecosystem health, through biodiversity sensitivity mapping, conservation, education, staff incentives and smart rehabilitation practices. For more information on how we manage biodiversity, please see the below materials:
Biodiversity and ecosystem services underpin human existence and are an essential element to reduce the impacts of climate change.
Our goal is to effectively manage biodiversity across our sites and reduce our impacts throughout the life of an asset, and post closure. We do not undertake exploration or mining activities on natural World Heritage sites. We map regional and local protected areas and terrestrial ecoregions to effectively work with biodiversity around our sites.
Endeavour has some key targets to halt and reverse biodiversity loss which include to:
300 ha
Protect 300 hectares of land across all our host countries
302 ha
This was achieved in 2023, a total of 302 hectares planted
260 ha
A further 260 hectares committed to in 2023 for planting during 2024
10 ha
Preserve 10 hectares per mine for land and biodiversity restoration.
We map regional and locally protected areas and terrestrial ecosystems to understand and effectively work with biodiversity around our sites. All our sites are located within 50 km of some form of area of conservation importance (e.g. World Heritage Site, Classified Forest, Important Bird and Biodiversity Area, Key Biodiversity Area, UNESCO Man and Biosphere Reserve, Ramsar Site, etc.). These areas are already formally recognised for their biodiversity conservation value, with some even enjoying legal protection.
