The Endeavour Foundation, along with partners, are leading a bold reforestation effort in West Africa in support of the Great Green Wall initiative

To address the impact of climate change on our host communities and support biodiversity, the Endeavour Foundation has initiated the second year of an ambitious reforestation
programme spanning 260 hectares in Senegal.

Last year, 130 hectares were already reforested, bringing the total to 390 hectares, equivalent to 475 football pitches! When fully matured in 5 years, the 140,000 trees planted will absorb 3,475,000 kg of CO2 annually.

The 2023 partnership with the Senegalese Agency for Reforestation and the Great Green Wall (ASERGMV) , focuses on reforestation efforts in the Bakel department, and the improvement of an irrigation system for the market gardening of 4 women's agricultural cooperatives in the village of Saré. The Endeavour Foundation has invested 89 million FCFA for this important initiative.

The programme will pursue 3 main objectives:

  1. Accelerating reforestation efforts in Senegal
  2. Supporting the development of climate-resilient communities with a focus on poverty reduction
  3. Improving land management, food security, and creating sustainable agricultural value chains.

Aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, our sustainability approach places a primary emphasis on preserving biodiversity - an integral aspect of our environmental protection efforts and a core pillar of our strategy.

Launched by the African Union, the Great Green Wall project will span 22 African countries from Senegal to Djibouti, and, once complete, will be the largest living structure on the planet, three times the size of the Great Barrier Reef.
