Electrification project launched to connect six villages in Sabodala to the grid

On 10 June 2022, we signed an agreement with the Senegalese Rural Electrification Agency (ASER) and the municipality of Sabodala to electrify six villages in the municipality.

Costing around 1.4 billion F CFA, the majority of which is being funded by Endeavour, the project will provide households with access to a sustainable energy source and stimulate economic development. Commenting on this project, Aziz Sy, our VP Public Affairs for Senegal, Mali and Guinea said: "This unprecedented partnership in the region will contribute decisively to improving the well-being of the local population, providing a boost to local economic activity and enhancing the benefits received from the mine by our host communities."

A key pillar of our sustainability strategy is to invest in infrastructure that improves host communities’ access to water and electricity. We have committed to majority-fund the electrification of six villages to support the rapid population growth and energy stress on the growing local economies. The project will build a new medium voltage line, in partnership with ASER and the Commune of Sabodala.

This concept of exemplary partnership contributes to the objective set by the President of the Republic for universal access to affordable and competitive energy for both the population and businesses from 2025.
